RE: Diesel fuel dumb question of the Decade

Well, that sure answers my question. If anyone is near the Wal Mart in Seneca, SC tomorrow morning and you see an Excursion pull in, look out, I'm still practicing.

Diesel fuel dumb question of the Decade

Wal mart, in our Neighborhood, has diesel fuel much cheaper than the other stations. Now, the dumb oozes out, Is it the same as you would get at a truck stop? I am new at owning a diesel RV and really don't know. I was ready to go fill up this morning but my DW asked if I was sure about the fuel. I was until she brought it up but now, I ant.:h

RE: Has anyone regretted going bigger?

DW and I went from a class "c" to a class A Bounder 35E and about two months on up to a 40' Revolution. I say bigger is better.

RE: Generator start up.

I got in a lot of manual reading last night during the election patter. This morn, I set the inverter/charger to AGM setting, plugged into 20 amp shore power and the batteries charged up properly. After this, I unplugged the shore power and tried the generator. It started right up. This was not discussed when we had our walk through when purchasing the RV. I had been used to the 06 Bounder which was a gasser and was caught flat footed with a lot of things that are different with a diesel. Thanks for all the advice. Knowing me, I will be back.

RE: wet ceiling just to the left of my AC intake

Hi all. I always like to follow up when I can, I think it really helps those folks who might have a similar problem down the road. I wasn't able to get out to where my coach is parked until last night (election night -- another story). I took the inside AC cover off, and soon found that you guys were dead on -- the 4 bolts were all very loose -- 2 of them not even hand tight. All my walking around on the roof this summer probably had something to do with it too(I was doing some major rotten wood replacement). I tightened them up snug, but not with a lot of force (still haven't picked up that torque wrench). We'll see how the ceiling fares after the next rain. pat We all love a good ending, especially one where water is involved. I have never owned a torque wrench either. Hope I never need one:B

RE: Generator start up.

Do you have a boost switch that connects the house batteries with the coach batteries? With this switch ON the engine alternator will charge both house and chassis batteries. It sounds like the generator start batteries are just low. If there is a boost switch, I am unaware of it. I have 6, 12V batteries but I can't even see how they are hooked up. or what type they are. The hand book says they are AGM or something to that effect. XANTREX Freedom 458 inverter/charger with basic remote control over the passenger side storage area. I may have pushed the wrong buttons when I first started testing things. When Ifirst had the inverter on, a couple of weeks ago, I smelled a very strong battery odor. I believe I may have accidently started the equalizing stage. If these batteries are inded AGM cell, I don't think they are to be equalized. I plan to do some more book reading tomorrow. Still learning.

Generator start up.

When I go into our 2006 Revolution there is some power for lights, I am not hooked to shore power, I need to start the Gen set to check it. It will not start. I can start the engine and let it run for a couple of minutes and then the gen will start normally. In a previous class A, all I had to do to start the gen was push the start switch and hold it for a few secs until the gen started. Could it be in the battery cutoff switch? The battery cut-off will not work until the gen starts. Still learning after three years and three RV'S, A class C, and two class A's.

RE: Air Bag Question...

If I dump the air on my coach lets say to level it and have the park brake activated, in fact that is the only way it will level itself automatically, then the bags will not inflate until I turn off the HWH auto leveling system. Once I do that then the system returns to "Travel Mode" with the green lite lit. Is it possible that you still had the system in the dump mode or at least not in the "Travel Mode"..? I don't understand the, "Travel mode," or the green light. I have a 2006 Revolution and it does not have these features. It has a switch that says dump air bags and that's all. Sometimes they dump and sometimes I am not sure what they are doing.

RE: Diesel ?

Sounds like a bad battery connection. Do your battery terminals have many wires connected to them?? If so *some* of them could be corroded. Have you ever cleaned them all real good? I checked the batteries and they look clean. I just traded for this RV last week and was told everything was checked out and all was good. But,,,,I know how that goes, Yep, got batteries, Check..... Yep, got steering wheel,Check,

Diesel ?

I have to start the engine before I can start the generator. Is this normal? Also, when I enter the coach, some of the Lighting will work and others will not. This is a 2006 Revolution on a Spartan Chassie. 400 Hp Cummings engine. As stated before, there is a strong smell when the batteries are charging. The power center over the dash will not light up until the generator is on. When I start the engine and before starting the generator, all the lighting will operate . Neither TV will operate until I start the generator. I am wondering if the inverter is on. It's raining cats & dogs or I would go check it.

RE: Bad smell while charging batteries

SHORE POWER...Actually it comes from boat/ship nomenclature, the anology is...no longer independent/mobile/asea = attached to shore = source of power is ashore = shore power!!!! Worked on a ship, we had the choice of running our own genny, or throwing over a massive power cable and operating off of shore power. OP, I agree with others here, you either have a bad batt, a bad cell, fluids are low, or charger is percolating the batts. As an afterthought you don't say whether you have 12's or 6's, are you hooking the charger up correctly??? ...Just my 2cts...Brian I am ashamed to tell it but, I am not sure. The batteries are all on a shelf and the shelf can't be pulled out for inspection. There is another shelf above that holds the inerter. I have never seen such a ridiculas arrangement as this. It looks like a couple of hours work just to get the batteries out, one at a time, I have seen the batteries on a slide out shelf but this one doesnot slide out. I have to take a good look at it when I get back home this afternoon. Thanks for all the comments. What I was attempting to do was hook to SHORE POWER:B and in the power pannel over the dash, charge from there.

RE: Bad smell while charging batteries

A bit off topic but why do all RV'ers call it a "shore" power cord? We have a 40' boat also and it has two 30 amp "shore" power cords. That makes sense since we are afloat when docked and we are connecting to "shore" power". (power provided from "on shore" as opposed to from our generator) In an RV we're always "ashore" so to speak. Yo me, "shore" has something to do with "water". Personally I refer to it as "plugging in" etc. when we hook up the RV. To me "shore power" seems a very odd description... but I guess that's also why they call it a "land yacht". (LOL). I have wondered the same thing. I am retired Navy and should know better:o But, the same goes for all these companys and other entities talking about, "welcome aboard." That sticks in my craw as we all know that aboard means mainly ships, trains, and maybe busses. :B

Bad smell while charging batteries

I am still trying to get used to this (new to me) Revolution. This bugger has about 6 batteries. I plugged into shore (from house) and the batteries went into the red on the display. I put them on charge and went back a while later and the inside of the coach smelled like rotten eggs. I opened the battery compartment and that's where the odor is comming from. Can someone tell me what's happening?
